About The Scary Management Company

Learn the soft skills that will make you a people management Jedi…

Let’s face it - managing people is scary. Interpersonal conflict, emotions, cultural differences, motivation, the scary list goes on. These can be ugly, complex topics that drain your energy and require advanced soft skills to deal with.

With the brain drain in South Africa, we have a need and responsibility to build these skills in the young managers of tomorrow. The Scary Management Company was founded by Vaugan Nayagar in 2023 to address this need and ensure the future success of South Africa.

Vaugan’s passion is building, enabling and energizing teams towards the achievement of their stated goals.

With academic, sporting and corporate excellence in building and inspiring teams, Vaugan decided to share his knowledge and passion with others and leave a legacy of growing other young leaders to take South Africa to a brighter future.

Corporate - Starting his career as an engineer in 2000, Vaugan has managed teams since 2006 at four different corporates (UEC Technologies, Multichoice, Vitality UK, Vitality Global).

Academic - With a BSc engineering degree from UKZN (1999) and Masters in Business Administration from Henley (2019), Vaugan has strong engineering and management chops. Vaugan opted to go with his passion when he based his Master’s thesis on the Managing People module, focusing on Staff Engagement at Vitality UK, hence his expertise with the soft skills literature.

Sporting - Vaugan has won national team titles with 2 different provinces in the team sport of Blackball pool. His success at national events resulted in selection to represent South Africa at 5 world championship events in UK (x2), France, Scotland and Ireland. He now plays socially.

The Scary Management Company intends to make these advanced skills accessible by simplifying the complex materials into an accessible and easily digestible Playbook and Manual, with other materials coming soon.

The Playbook is short narrative of Thandi’s journey into management for the first time. This is intended to highlight the journey that young new managers will face.

The Manual expands on the Playbook and serves as the actual training material used to prepare these young new managers for the career journey by equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to succeed.
